Between Light and Void

A Sensory Exploration of the Cosmic Abyss

Between Light and Void is a personal vision—an imagined universe born from the liminal space between illumination and emptiness. This work is not simply a depiction of the cosmos, but a painterly journey into its depths—an intuitive exploration, and a contemplative passage through the space between being and non-being.

At its foundation, I used the subtle, deep materiality of traditional lacquer, layering colors through a process of brushing, scraping, and bleeding pigment—like tapping through layers of time—to evoke a world beyond the visible. The result conjures cosmic filaments, nebulae, spiral structures, and the birth of stars, evoking a realm that transcends physical matter and touches on the origins and hidden order of life itself.

The blended hues of emerald and violet hold both the chill of space and the pulse of life. Scattered dots of light—rendered in delicate pointillism—suggest countless stars, remnants of stellar collapse, or the symbolic presence of unrealized light. Within them lies the echo of a pre-existent state, and perhaps, dimensions yet to come.

Through this work, I ask:
Is the space untouched by light still a part of existence?
Perhaps we are beings who dwell not fully in light, nor entirely in void, but somewhere in between—poised between possibility and silence.
