The Universe

The Universe

This work began from a long period of contemplation and sensing the expansiveness and infinity of the universe. From the very first layers of the canvas, I aimed to express the energy of a constantly expanding cosmos and the vastness of space. The structure radiating outward from the center evokes a sense of time and space resonating together—echoing the sensation of expansion itself.

At the heart of the piece, I layered various oil pigments over the course of a year to embody the inner reverberations of nuclear fusion. This was not merely a painting technique, but an attempt to visualize “layers of time”—accumulated material as a record of lived duration. Each layer conveys collisions, condensations, and bursts of energy, inviting the viewer to feel movement that extends beyond the surface.

To the right, the soft blue-hued region is inspired by a nebula—the cradle of stars. This area, composed primarily of blues, serves as a metaphor for birth, possibility, and the quiet persistence of hope. It symbolizes not just the physical formation of stars, but the beginning of inner light we all carry within us.

The scattered dots and textured fragments throughout the canvas represent remnants of star clusters and supernovae—elements pushed outward by stellar winds. They suggest the cyclical nature of the universe, where matter and life are constantly recombining, dissolving, and being reborn.

The Universe is not simply a depiction of cosmic form. For me, it is a meditative inquiry into the origins and meaning of existence—a visual exploration of the “cosmic sense” that links the universe to the human spirit. I hope this piece offers viewers a moment to encounter their own infinity.
